Billy and Theresa Grigory

Serving in Central Europe | Eurasia

What is God asking you to do?

Bill & Theresa are specialized assignment missionaries to the Central Europe Field on the Eurasia Region and have a unique journey to Nazarene missionary service.

Theresa was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up in the Church of the Nazarene. No matter where her Air Force family was stationed, they found a Church of the Nazarene to be involved in.  She came to know the Lord at 9 years old in a revival service.  She always had a love for missions and fully committed her life to God’s plan as a teenager at International Institute (now Nazarene Youth Conference).  She graduated from MidAmerica Nazarene University with a degree in History & Secondary Education.  It was there she met her husband, Bill.  They have been married for over forty-two years.

Bill grew up in a dysfunctional home with atheistic, abusive, alcoholic parents.  From age 13, he lived on his own, only staying in school because of his love of sports.  He found the Lord the week before his final year of high school. That moment at the altar in the Nazarene Church in Caruthersville, MO changed the course of his life forever!  Bill graduated from MidAmerica Nazarene University with a degree in Religion and then served on staff in Youth & Children’s Ministries in Woodward, Oklahoma.  Bill then attended Nazarene Theological Seminary where he earned his Master of Religious Education and then went on to church plant and pastor.  Years later, while pastoring in Oregon, Bill also earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary.

Bill and Theresa spent five years planting a church in Junction City, Oregon.  They went on to pastor First Church of the Nazarene in Phoenix, Arizona, and then returned to Oregon where they pastored the Molalla and Newport Churches of the Nazarene for nearly twenty years.  They were pastoring Gateway Church of the Nazarene, Murrieta, California on the Southern California District when they began to prepare to volunteer for three months on the mission field for Bill’s sabbatical.  Through the process, God clearly showed them that He had a new calling for their lives after 37+ years of pastoral ministry through Nazarene Global Missions.

In 2016, they were officially appointed as specialized assignment missionaries to the South Asia Field, living in Sri Lanka.  Bill served as the Assistant Field Strategy Coordinator for the South Asia Field, with most of his responsibilities being in leadership development & training pastors, support for Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, Work & Witness, and Alabaster for Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.  Theresa’s responsibilities included secretarial & finance support, mentoring, assisting with Eurasia’s M-Power volunteer missionary program, and other duties as requested.

Now at the end of their 2018 Home Assignment, they have been assigned to the Central Europe Field, and will live in Bulgaria.  Their new assignment includes training & mentoring pastors, assisting in church planting, teaching in Central Europe Field learning centers, and other assignments across the field and region as needed.

The Grigory’s have two daughters who are graduates of Northwest Nazarene University. Shannon is married to Rev. Josh Herndon and they serve as Nazarene missionaries on the Eurasia region, along with their children, Karis & Kaeden.  They have served in Spain, Greece and are now serving in Romania.  Megan is married to USMC Major Derick Staffenson, now stationed at USMC Hawaii Kaneohe Bay on Oahu with their children, Max, Luke & Emery.  They are members of the Kailua Community Church (Christian Missionary Alliance).

Going Where the Church is Not Yet

Today there are over 4.3 billion people who live in areas where there is little to no gospel witness. 4.3 billion people who have not heard the message of the gospel, who have never heard the name of Jesus. We believe that everyone deserves to hear. God continues to call the Church of the Nazarene to spread the message of the gospel, to preach holiness, and to bring good news to the poor all over the world. The task is enormous; far too big for anyone to do alone, but together we can go where the church is not yet and see people, communities, and nations transformed. Reaching these people begins with one step, a step of obedience and faithfulness that says yes to God’s call. Take your first step and start your journey toward serving in missions today.
