Michael and Jamie Askew

Serving in Dominican Republic on Global Deployment | Mesoamerica

Mike and Jamie became Christians at a young age and God called them to be missionaries.  His calling brought them together in college and they were blessed to go on short-term team mission trips.  They graduated from college as a married couple and excitedly served the Lord in various ministries as they anticipated their life as missionaries.  Tragedy struck shortly after when their firstborn son, Toby went to be with Jesus.  They leaned on the Lord like never before and learned, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.  His understanding is infinite"(Ps. 147:3,5).  Despite the pain, God became their true source of joy!  Since that time, God has blessed them with four beautiful children...Kaity, Kennidy, Kylierose and Kanaan.

In 2010 they became Mission Corps Missionaries with the Church of the Nazarene and moved to Pohnpei, Micronesia.  While there, they planted a church, held multiple weekly Bible studies, started a children's park ministry both in town and in the jungle, and grew lifelong friendships with the people there.  They especially enjoyed watching the Lord transform lives into His beautiful image while on Pohnpei.

This couple if very thankful that God's family spans the globe!  The next step in their journey took them to the Kirksville Church of the Nazarene in 2013 where Mike served as the lead pastor.  They love the congregation more than words can say.  God is working in amazing ways there as ministry leaders are being surrounded by their own teams who support, encourage and help in the various ministries of the church.  The church is growing both spiritually and numerically and Mike and Jamie give God all the glory for it.

Recently, another adventure began in their lives!  God began laying a burden on the hearts of both Mike and Jamie that it was time to go back to the mission field.  He confirmed it over and over again through various Scriptures and even miracles.  Everywhere they turned, God kept saying, "Go".  Not only did He say, "go" but He was very specific in the verses that He gave them.  The Holy Spirit used all of these things to point them as missionaries.

At the end of August 2019 their family moved to Haiti as Global Missionaries with the Church of the Nazarene.  They are serving as the Work and Witness Coordinators in the Dominican Republic.  The Church is growing rapidly and there is an immense need for new church buildings to be built.  Both Mike and Jamie are excited to be a part of the great things that God is doing there and would love to partner with you to help expand the Kingdom of God!

Going Where the Church is Not Yet

Today there are over 4.3 billion people who live in areas where there is little to no gospel witness. 4.3 billion people who have not heard the message of the gospel, who have never heard the name of Jesus. We believe that everyone deserves to hear. God continues to call the Church of the Nazarene to spread the message of the gospel, to preach holiness, and to bring good news to the poor all over the world. The task is enormous; far too big for anyone to do alone, but together we can go where the church is not yet and see people, communities, and nations transformed. Reaching these people begins with one step, a step of obedience and faithfulness that says yes to God’s call. Take your first step and start your journey toward serving in missions today.
